Some of my favorite finds at the Simi Valley Street Fair are the local makers. At the Fall 2023 fair I met three: Sugar Shack Apples (gourmet caramel apples), Cowlifornia Couture (handmade leather purses), and Olive Candle Co. (soy candles). Here’s how to find each of them outside the fair.

Sugar Shack Apples: gourmet caramel apples

Sugar Shack is a licensed cottage food bakery run out of a Simi Valley home kitchen. The caramel and the crumble toppings are made from scratch, and they’re best known for unique flavors like strawberry shortcake, blueberry muffin, and birthday cake.

  • How to order: A new menu is posted every Sunday on Instagram and Facebook (@sugarshackapples), with local pickup on Fridays.

Cowlifornia Couture: handmade leather purses

This Simi Valley maker has been handcrafting one-of-a-kind leather purses and leather goods since 2018, working out of a trailer here in town. Everything is handmade and custom, and I’ll tell you, the booth smelled amazing, like real leather.

  • Find them: Cowlifornia Couture on Instagram and Facebook.

Olive Candle Co.: clean-burning soy candles

Jackie’s candles are made with 100 percent soy wax and non-toxic fragrance oils, so they burn clean. The large candles last up to 80 hours, and there are tea lights, travel tins, and seasonal scents too. They’re some of the best-smelling candles I’ve ever come across.

  • Find them: olivecandleco.com, and Olive Candle Shop on Instagram and Facebook.
