A Doggie’s Tail Spaw is a self-serve dog wash and grooming shop in Simi Valley’s Sycamore Village shopping center, where you can bathe your dog yourself at a wash station instead of making a mess at home. I brought my Boston Terrier, Opie, and owner Karen Behr walked us through it. Opie loved it.
How does the self-serve dog wash work?
- Weigh your dog to find its size.
- Fill out the forms and grab a basket of supplies sized for your dog.
- Head to a wash station. For long-haired dogs, Karen recommends brushing them out first, with your hand under the brush so you’re brushing your hand, not their skin.
- Shampoo, rinse, and enjoy a clean dog without the wet mess in your kitchen sink.
What shampoo do they use?
The wash stations use Spina Organics shampoos, which are plant-based with no parabens. There’s a tearless puppy shampoo for faces. Opie has allergies, and Karen said these are gentle. In the second video, Spina rep Dana walks through the whole lineup: a charcoal and bamboo shampoo for dark coats, a hypoallergenic unscented shampoo, a detangler, a between-wash spray, a dog face wash, and a botanical flea and tick shampoo.
