Sure Secured is a Simi Valley-based company that makes security screen doors and windows with woven stainless steel mesh, so they look and breathe like regular screens but are built to keep intruders out. Tricia and I visited their headquarters and talked with co-owner Bala King-Rushing.
How did Sure Secured get started?
Bala and partners Kevin and Amber De Vaas come from public service backgrounds. Bala was a teacher. They had seen this kind of product before, but few people knew about it, so they started the company to make it affordable and accessible for more homes.
How do the security screens work?
- Mesh: high-tensile woven stainless steel, rated to withstand about 850 to 1,000 PSI of force.
- Frame: aircraft-grade aluminum.
- Lock: a three-point, military-grade lock, with tamper-proof mounting.
- Airflow: it’s breathable, so you can leave your regular doors and windows open for a cross breeze. That’s what we live in California for.
And they look like regular screens. Bala says some customers forget they’re there and walk right into them.
