Simi Valley’s 4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza is a free community celebration with live bands, food, local vendors, and a fireworks show, put on by the Simi Valley Kiwanis Club in partnership with the City of Simi Valley and the park district. I went in 2022 and 2023, and it feels like just about everyone in Simi Valley is there in red, white, and blue.
Who puts on the Simi Valley fireworks show?
Stephanie Jennings of the Simi Valley Kiwanis Club told me the club puts on the event in partnership with the City of Simi Valley and the Parks and Rec department. It takes hours and hours of work to bring together the food vendors, craft vendors, and entertainment.
What was there in 2023?
- Live music from three bands: The Mod Squad, Forever Rod (a Rod Stewart tribute), and Justin Honsinger.
- Food and drinks, including tacos, kettle corn, burgers from Rock n Roll Cafe, Makenna Koffee’s Hawaiian-themed coffee truck, and a root beer float cold brew from Lucky Dog Cafe.
- Local vendors selling crystals, handmade jewelry, screen-printed shirts, personalized gifts, patriotic outfits, and hair braids with tinsel.
- Community groups, like the Simi Valley Police Department Explorers and a group that sends care packages to troops.
- Cornhole, picnics, and families everywhere.
What about 2022?
In 2022, the celebration was held on July 2. The crowd took time to thank the fire department, police, nurses, and service members before the fireworks.
