Epic Tacos is a family-owned taco shop at Los Angeles Avenue and Yosemite in Simi Valley, run by Edgar and Sandra, who grew it from a catering truck into their first restaurant. They make their tortillas by hand, and the Baja fish taco is the crowd favorite. Honestly, they’re some of the best tacos I’ve had in Simi Valley.
How did Epic Tacos get started?
Edgar and Sandra come from the catering business and still run a food truck. After about eight years serving the community from their mobile kitchen, they chose Simi Valley for their first brick-and-mortar restaurant. Edgar wanted to create a taco that’s different, with a street-style feel and ingredients you won’t find everywhere.
What should you order at Epic Tacos?
- Baja fish taco: their best seller. Edgar says one bite takes you back to Baja.
- Grilled shrimp taco: a recipe they put a lot of heart and time into.
- Birria: I tried two kinds, and they were amazing.
- Burritos: the surf and turf burrito with their house-made spicy aioli is a favorite.
- Epic nachos and epic fries.
Everything is made fresh with no shortcuts, so be patient. As Sandra put it, good food takes time.
Why the name Epic?
They wanted a name that’s all positive. Their food is epic, their personalities are epic, and they go all out.
