Smokin’ Steve’s BBQ is a Moorpark catering company, right next door to Simi Valley, known for Southern-style, low-and-slow barbecue like its 16-hour smoked brisket, with full-service catering for groups from 10 to 1,500. We’ve known owner Steve Bayles for years and see him catering events all over town, so we finally visited his kitchen.
What makes Smokin’ Steve’s different?
Steve makes as much as possible from scratch, from the tomato basil bruschetta to the artichoke dip, and he says people can taste the difference. While a lot of California barbecue spots have their own style, Smokin’ Steve’s is all about the South: low and slow comfort food. In Steve’s words, life’s too short for barbecue that isn’t great.

- Holiday meals: Tricia ordered the large Thanksgiving meal, and it was perfect.

- Full-service catering with setup, tables and chairs, buffets, serving staff, bartenders, and cleanup.
- Any size: when we filmed, the minimum was 10 people. They’ve served company lunches for 1,500 and a Veterans Day event for 1,800, from Irvine to Santa Barbara.
