If you’re looking for authentic Mexican cuisine with incredible seafood in Simi Valley, let me tell you about El Maizal – a family-owned restaurant that’s quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in town.

My Experience at El Maizal

I recently stopped by Taqueria El Maizal on Royal Avenue, and honestly, I’m still thinking about the meal. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming and laid-back – exactly what you want from a local taqueria.

The Food: Fresh, Flavorful, and Authentic

I decided to go with their Asada Fries, and they did not disappoint. We’re talking perfectly seasoned carne asada piled high on crispy fries, topped with cheese, guacamole, and sour cream. Every bite was loaded with flavor, and the portions were generous enough to share (though I didn’t want to!).

To wash it down, I ordered a Michelada – ice-cold and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of spice and lime. It was the ideal pairing for the richness of the asada fries.

The Seafood Specialization

Here’s what makes El Maizal stand out: they specialize in seafood. While I went with the asada fries this time, I couldn’t help but notice their mixed seafood soup being served to other tables. It looked absolutely incredible – a rich, flavorful broth loaded with shrimp, fish, octopus, and other fresh seafood. I’m definitely coming back just for that.

Their menu features a wide variety of seafood options that you don’t typically find at your average taqueria:

Chill Atmosphere: It’s the kind of place where you can relax, enjoy your meal, and not feel rushed. Perfect for a casual lunch or dinner.

The Verdict

Whether you’re craving traditional Mexican dishes like tacos and burritos, or you’re in the mood for fresh seafood, El Maizal has you covered. The quality of the food speaks for itself, and the casual, friendly vibe makes it a great spot for families, friends, or even a solo meal.
